Create Calmness in the Canine

Hyper dogs can sometimes be aggressive, and more often than not, they tend to unintentionally hurt people even if all they wanted was to play because of their violent reaction.

1. Understand your dog's needs.

Observe to determine what triggers your dog's excitable behavior. Some dogs may want to go outside, seek your attention, desire to play with another dog, or simply be hungry. Once you identify the reason for their energetic outburst, it becomes easier to calm your dog.

2. Prevent the dog from repeating overly excited reactions.

When you take your dog for a walk, they might start jumping up and down with excitement. If you wait for your dog to settle before putting on the leash, they might repeat this behavior. Ensure your dog doesn’t repeat any aggressive reactions.

When they start jumping, instruct them to sit and calm them down before gently attaching the leash. Avoid making the dog feel that their behavior excites you, as this will only encourage their aggressive reactions.

3. Avoid showing frustration to your dog.

While training your dog to be calm, avoid displaying irritation or frustration, as it can worsen the situation. Learn to ignore your dog until they calm down and can listen. Do not react hastily or with frustration. Displaying strong emotions will increase the dog's excitability, making it harder for them to settle and listen to you.

4. Reward your dog.

Always carry dog treats with you. If the dog runs wildly in the house and eventually rests on the floor, reward them with biscuits. Repeat this every time your dog stays calm without your guidance. After a few attempts, they will understand what you want them to do and will repeat the good behavior for treats and approval from you.

5. Practice consistency.

Once you start training your dog, ensure you maintain consistency throughout the week. Continuously remind them of their behavior to avoid confusion.

For example, if you let your dog run and jump around the house and later scold them for it, they may become stressed, not understanding your expectations.

Regardless of how tired you are, ensure you follow the training protocol daily until your dog learns basic house manners.
